It's been a busy couple of weeks around the Higham house. With the arrival of Spring came Lacrosse and Track season, gardening season, and the start of Jay's new ministry job. We've been traveling, attending meets and games, and trying to juggle ministry and our jobs all at the same time. But through it all, we are grateful for all of God goodness.

Let's talk Lacrosse first. Asher's senior year of Lacrosse wrapped up with a North Regional Championship. Asher played mid-field and attack and averaged about 3 points per game. With the season now over, we're in the final stretch of his senior year. In just a couple of weeks, we'll celebrate his graduation; the closing of another chapter in the Higham story.

Breya had another great season of track. She focused on long jump and shot put, increasing her distances in both. Her attention is now focused on the final days of her freshman year. Crazy to think we are at the end of the school year already.
Amy has been busy with Capernaum and year end activity planning for the ministry. It has been such an incredible year with our Capernaum friends. We have welcomed new students, buddies, and leaders this year. Next week, YoungLife will host their spring fund raiser, The Amazing Raise. Be sure to watch Facebook for details and ways you can help support Amy's ministry.

Amy has also started subbing within the school system; working in special ed. classrooms. This is a great way to meet new students in the community.

In April, Jay accepted a new ministry role with National Network of Youth Ministries (NNYM), an organization that helps to connect youth leaders with other youth leaders in networks for encouragement, training, and spiritual growth. You can learn more about his new role here: www.JayHigham.com.

With all the school stuff, sports, work, and ministry, we are also getting the house and property ready for the summer. That means cleaning up of down branches and limbs from around the property, prepping the gardens and flower beds, raking up any leaves leftover from the fall, and setting up for the summer. We're starting our vegetable seeds planting our starters, and and getting ready for the growing season. You can read about our summer planting on our new Backyard Farming page.

We're also staying busy with our egg-layers. We've added another 14 chicks to our current 14 chickens giving us a grand total of 28 chickens. Our 14 adult hens are cranking out 8 to 14 eggs a day, while our 14 pullets (non-laying chicks) are growing up fast. They should begin laying in late July or early August.

Life has been full. As we hit the halfway point of May, our sights turn to the final days of school. Breya will wrap up her freshman year and Asher will graduate from high school. The school year has gone so fast. Can't believe summer is just around the corner.

But the exciting thing about summer is the opportunity for great family time! We're looking forward to the summer months, vacation, gardening, weekend trips exploring the community and family time together.

And of course, we'll get back to regular content here on the blog. We'll be sharing content from our backyard farm, more Crazy in Love articles, fun family activities ideas for the summer, and the vlog. Yes, the vlog is up and running with almost daily posts as we raise our chickens and plant, tend, and harvest this summers garden. Be sure you are following along as we share all that we are learning as we begin our very own little homestead here on the hill.
