Last Thursday, we made the trip back into Pittsburgh, to Magee Women's Hospital, for another surgery. It's been about four months since Amy's initial surgery to remove her cancer. We had been waiting to meet with her plastic surgeon to learn about her next step in her recovery and reconstruction. That meeting took place on Tuesday, August 9th.
This surgery was a short, minor surgery to remove a skin patch that was place with your initial flab surgery. The removal now sets us up for our next, larger surgery, and the beginning of her reconstruction.
Our day started at 3:30 AM. We needed to be at the hospital by 5:30 AM for a 7:15 AM OR appointment. We were on the road by 4:15 AM. We were right on time. We arrived, got check in, and before we knew it, we were in pre-op. Around 7:12, I (Jay) was ushered back to the waiting room and Amy was taken to the OR. About 50 minutes later, the surgeon found me and told me Amy was in recovery and that everything went great. This is always good news.
We wish we could say that this was our last surgery, but it's not. In a couple of weeks, we'll meet with the plastic surgeon again to set a date for the next surgery. As I said earlier, this next surgery will be a big one. We don't know all the details, yet, however, we do know that it will come with a couple weeks of restrictions and limitations. After that, we don't know.
This has been a journey, an experience that is continuing to teach us things about ourselves, each other, and God. In the meaning, we will continue to trust God. So here we go. The journey continues. - the higham family
