Discovering the Spiritual Disciplines

Picture
What are Spiritual Disciplines? Well, simply put, they are practices that help us grow closer to God, help us to mature in our faith, be shaped to be more like Jesus. At the heart of the word discipline is the word to teach. To discipline someone, is to teach them. That is why Jesus took disciples, men that he taught to be like him.

But discipleship was much different in Jesus day. Disciples spent 24/7 with their teachers. They lived with, day after day, watching, learning, listening, asking, hearing, doing. Discipleship was a lifestyle. More than tools, more than methods, more than tricks or techniques, discipleship was how you lived.

At Harvest Church, we think discipleship should be more that reading a few good books, discipleship is a process in which we live out the example set by Jesus. More than a list of teachings to be accomplished like a Spiritual To Do List, these disciplines are habits; they become part of who we are. Just like the habits from every day life, brushing our teeth, sleeping on one side of the bed, sitting in the same chair, or following the same morning routine, spiritual disciplines should become a part of our every day life.

I want to invite you to join us as we at Harvest Church work to make the discipleship a part of our lives. As our kids return to the hallways, lunchrooms, gyms, school buses, and sports fields, we too are returning to the classroom as we go Back to School and A Guide to Discipleship. There are 6 sessions where we discuss the H.A.B.I.T.S.

H - Having Time with God
A - Accountable Relationships
B - Bible Memorization
I - Involvement in the Life and Ministry of the Church
T - Tithing
S - Studying Scripture

I want to help you begin a few new habits. Not just things for you to add to your daily tasks, but habits that help you to become more like Christ. From my teaching notes, to passed videos, to resources, and tools to help you with your new habits, it's all right here! So come, let's get started!

H.A.B.I.T.S.

INTRODUCTION TO H.A.B.I.T.S. & DISCIPLESHIP...
Discipleship is crazy important for the believer. Discipleship is where we learn and grow. It's that process where the Holy Spirit is at work teaching, instructing, convicting, refining, training, and shaping us to be more and more like Jesus. Discipleship was the same process that Jesus used to train the 12 men who later became known as the Apostles. (minus Judas) As believers, followers of Jesus, we too must become his disciples.
