This week, Amy and Jay drove with Nate out to Kent State University, in Kent, OH. Nate attended a college fair earlier this fall and stopped at the Kent table to talk with the representative. Kent wasn't on the radar. Actually, nothing was on the radar. While Nate was thinking about majoring in architecture or graphic design, he really didn't know what his options were. At least till now.
Following the college fair, Nate started talking about Kent State and their architectural program. So he set up a visit and off we went. To say we were impressed is an understatement. The campus was beautiful, the tour was super informative, the tour guide was very helpful, and the information presented was wonderful. We think Nate was impressed with the facilities and the possibility of being a part of what were discovering is a really solid and respect program.
This being our second time around the "college visitation block", Amy and I look at this visits a little differently. We are learning to ask better questions, to read between the lines, to look past the "fun" elements of campus life to see truer realities of college. We are also learning to let go of our expectation and allowing our kids to chase after their dreams and ambitions. It's not easy, but we are learning that it is essential to the success of our children.
All in all, it really was a great trip. We could see Nate do well at Kent. Now, we just need to pray and see if Kent is right for Nate. - the higham family
