Two Books to Help You Love More

February is the month that we generally think about love. Typically it's the romantic love that comes to mind. We promote and the encourage love between a husband and wife, a girlfriend and a boyfriend, but love is much more.

Today, we're sharing two books that we have read and loved that talk about the topic of love. But these books aren't about romantic love. (We'll share a couple of those books later this week.) These books remind us how to love outside of ourselves.

As the Church, we are called to love. But let's be honest, that's hard to do. Too often we're selfish and self-centered, focusing and caring about ourselves far more that we care for others.

We chose these two books because of the approach they take as they remind us how to love others, how to be loved and how to love with God.

Love Does, Bob Goff

Love Does. Published in 2012, author Bob Goff, shares a series of stories and adventures that reveal just how powerful our decision to love can be. Amy and I have had the opportunity to listen to Bob speak on a number of occasions. We've laughed. We've cried. And we've been surprisingly encouraged to live outside of ourselves.

Love Does, is story after story of Bob's encounters with people from around the world and how he made the simple decision to just love whoever he found himself with. You will be inspired with each chapter you read.

Crazy Love, Francis Chan

Crazy Love, by Francis Chan, is by far one of my (Jay) favorite books ever.  I have been privileged to hear Francis Chan speak 3 times. It was after the first hearing, I snatched up Crazy Love. Written to encourage the reader to discover a bigger God, Francis tackles the challenging topic of knowing God's love for us and how we respond .

Francis wants us to know the deep love-relationship that God desires for us. It's not just knowing about God, but developing a relationship where we begin to know God.
