![]() John 14:1-6 Jesus Comforts His Disciples 1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. I love GPS. Plug in your destination and enjoy the ride. The little voice tells you where to go, when to turn, and how long before you get there. It’s great. Jesus is preparing to leave his disciples. He assures them of three things. 1. He was going to prepare a place for his followers. 2. He would return. 3. He would take them to be with him. Three wonderful commitments, promises really of what to look forward too. But the question Thomas asks is one that I think many today ask. Essential, Thomas asks, “How?” In other words, ‘Lord, you say you are going to this place, to do these things, and you will come back and get us, and that we ourselves know where you are going and the way to get there, but how?’ It’s a question I think many ask. How do we get to where Jesus is? But in today’s culture, the ‘how’ is too often skewed. While Jesus gives a clear and specific answer, too many of us miss the answer. There is but one way to the Father; through Jesus Christ and only through Jesus. Today you will here people say things like, “There are many ways to God.” Or, “I’m making my own path to God.” But Jesus tells us that the ONLY way to the Father God is through him. That means that we have to recognized Jesus for who he is; the Son of God, Messiah, Savior, Redeemer, and only true way. Today think about what that means for you. Are you following the WAY, or hoping that your own version of GPS will get you there? - jay PS - Was this post helpful, insightful, encouraging, or thought provoking? Great!
