The Official Start of the Holiday Season

11/2/2017

It's here, the official start to the 2017 holiday season, and we are so excited! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, this is one of our most favorite time of the year! So much our favorite, that we are hoping to share some of the things that make this time of the year, the best time of the year!

October 31st arrived. The kids went to school. Amy and Jay went to work. In the evening we enjoyed a quick dinner before heading out the door for trick or treating. The kids were all dressed up with bags in tow, and off we went for the spooky fun. After a couple hours of going door to door, we were home with buckets of candy. But while the trick or treating was great, it was really just a step closer to kicking off the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.

The next day, November 1st. It was like flipping a switch. All thoughts of Halloween seemed to disappear as the reality of the new month creeped in. November 1st. Time to start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And that's what we plan to do, starting thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas! We love these two holidays, perhaps more than any other. The traditions, the decorations, the stories, the reasons for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, we look forward to them every year. In fact, it's safe to say that as the years pass, we get more and more excited about Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The rule in our house has been, Thanksgiving first. That meant, no Christmas music, no Christmas movies, no Christmas anything till the Friday after Thanksgiving. And for years, Jay fought to keep Christmas in it's place while Amy wanted to start the Christmas conversation in November. But all of that is changing. The old traditions are falling away as this year we are looking to celebrate both holiday's together.

What does that mean? Well, it doesn't mean that we are skipping Thanksgiving, nor does it mean that we are hanging Christmas lights already. (But just so you know, the Christmas lights are already up, but only because they are attached to the gutters around the house.)

It means that for these next 2 months, we are going to be getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas as we share some of our favorite traditions, stories, and holiday fun right here on the family blog and our family YouTube channels.

We want to invite you to come along with us as we celebrate to two of our most favorite holidays. Over the next two months, we will be getting ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Along with our traditions and stories, we will be hosting the Christmas Door Challenge!

Last Christmas, we shared how we had our kids decorate their bedroom doors with Christmas themes. We then asked our readers to vote on which door they like the most. We had so much fun reading the comments and watching the votes come in. This year, not only will we be asking you to vote on our doors, but we will be asking you to decorate your doors and send us a picture. Then we will pick a favorite door from all of the submissions! And yes, there will be a prize! It's going to be great.

So come along and celebrate the the most joyous time of the year!

It all begins, Monday, November 6th!
