Happy Wednesday, and thanks for checking in with the Higham's!
The snow continues to fall here in Western, PA. Over the last couple of days we have seen about 6 inches of snow fall leaving the property as a winter wonderland. It is absolutely beautiful. But even with the snow, we have a basketball game, so off we go!
So we thought we had a night to stay home and enjoy some time together as a family, while watching the snow fall outside.
But that turned out not to be the case. As Amy and the kids came home from school, we learned of a late basketball game. Late meaning, 8:00 p.m. Some how there was a miscommunication or something, not really sure how it missed the calendar, nonetheless, we had to now decide on whether or not we head out for the game. After talking in out for a while, we decided to go to the game. While the snow was falling pretty heavy in the late afternoon, weather radars were showing that the edge of the storm was approaching and that travel would be okay. Now let us say, we're not opposed to driving in the snow. When we lived in the Laurel Highlands, snow was a routine occurrence. We often found ourselves driving through snow storms and in worse conditions then we've seen since living in Western PA. When snow falls on the mountain, they handle it better. We never had any trouble getting around in the snow. But since we've been living where we do now, we've noticed that the roads aren't always as easily traveled. In fact, the first come winters in our area were absolutely treacherous. Not because of the snow fall, but because the roads weren't treated as well. We slipped and slid all over the place. Even where we live now, there are some roads that are just horrendous, even dangerous. So it's not so much the snow, but whether or not the roads are passable. Well, we made to and from the game without incident. The snow fall had tapered off and while the roads weren't great, most were in good condition. Asher got to play his game with his team, and they won! It's not always easy when as a parent you have to make decisions that could come with unexpected outcomes. We often consider a number of angles and possibilities before we make a big decision. We try to think about the great impact to our family and not just one child. Having five kids makes us a larger family than most. Thus our decision making is just a little more complex. And, while we don't like saying NO to our kids, sometimes it's what's best for everyone. But when we can say YES, well that brings with it a joy that make the special moments sweeter. So here's some highlights from the game! Asher played well, and his team did a pretty good job! watch other episodes of life in the higham house
