We need your help with a big decision.
For the last couple of years, we have been experimenting with a YouTube channel that we call Life in the Higham House. Initially, the channel was started as a way to share some of the adventures of our family with our extended family who lived far away. A little over 2 years ago, we attempted to start a family vlog. Our goal was to share our family story; our trials, adventures, successes, joys, loss's, and whatever else came along. We wanted to encourage other families while creating content that was family friendly.
At first it was fun. We posted randomly, curious of what the response would be. We picked up a few subscribers and we thought that that was kinda cool. But then we started to really get into the idea of having positive and encourage family vlogging channel, so we tried posting with a little more regularity. We welcomed a few more subscribers. But then this past summer, we attempted to post a new vlog every day of the summer. We fell short, but the channel grew a little more. Then this fall we hit 100 subscribers. We were thrilled! So to celebrate our 100 subscribers, we attempted to vlog as much as possible posting 62 new videos between September and the end of 2017. We attempted to vlog as much as possible posting 62 new videos between September and the end of 2017.
But now we find ourselves at a crossroads and we need your help. We need to make a decision of whether we should continue the vlog or let it be. First of all, we love doing the vlog. It's fun for us and we love sharing what life looks like in the Higham house. We also love that with each vlog post, we capture a moment in time for our family. Some day, these videos will be precious treasures as we look back and watch them after the kids are all grown. We also love that some of you watch our vlogs! It's both humbling and amazing when we hear people say, "we watch your vlogs all the time." Or, when someone asks about about how the kids are because they saw one of our vlogs.
However, vlogging takes a lot of time and we live a very busy life. We five active kids, and 2 full-time jobs; vlogging can sometimes take a back burner because we are just too busy. Until now, we have taken a relaxed approach to our channel, posting as frequently as we can with the understanding that family life comes first.
About 2 weeks ago, we received an email from Youtube, notifying us of some changes that would be taking effect in the coming weeks. In attempts to provide continued, quality content for the YouTube viewer, YouTube was changing the partnership agreements. Basically, they raised the bar and challenged content creators to do the same.
These changes got me thinking and that thinking has brought us to this place. The first question is, do we continue in creating family-friendly content or do we back off and only post videos when we feel like we have something to share? I think for us, we would like to continue posting. But it's the second question that will help us make our decision, "DO YOU WANT US TO CONTINUE POSTING NEW VIDEOS TO THE LIFE IN THE HIGHAM HOUSE CHANNEL?" DO YOU WANT US TO CONTINUE POSTING NEW VIDEOS TO THE LIFE IN THE HIGHAM HOUSE CHANNEL?
So here's what we're doing. We need 1000 subscribers by the end of February 2018, in order to continue in our partnership with YouTube. That's a huge target, and we would love to see that target reached! I mean, we were thrilled when we hit 100 subscribers, 1000 subscribers would blow our minds. But we don't want to have a channel that simply boosts a lot of subscribers. We want to host a channel that really does encourage families while offering fun, family-friend content. We want a channel where you look forward to checking in at the Higham house, to see what's going happening. We want a channel with adventures and trips, celebrations and family fun. We want a channel that feels more like a community where we are getting to know YOU as you get to know us.
That leads us to the big question, "Do YOU want us to continue, Life in the Higham House?" If so, can you help us reach 500 subscribers by February 26th, 2018? Currently, we have 125 subscribers. (As of Tuesday, January 30, 2018.) That means we only need 475 new subscribers to become part of our YouTube family? What will this mean? First, 500 subscribers will tell us that YOU want to see more Life in the Higham House! Second, it will change how we post new vlogs. Instead of our current, random posts squeezed in whenever we have the time, we will make the commitment to post new vlogs on a regular basis. We will establish a weekly schedule for when new posts will go live on YouTube. That means, we will take our life-sharing a little more seriously, creating new content for you on a regular timeline. This doesn't mean that we would post a daily vlog. More likely we would post somethings new 3 to 4 times during the week. Basically, 500 hundred subscribers says, "Hey, we like watching Life in the Higham House and want to see more of you guys!" Now the how. How do we get to 500 subscribers in such a short amount of time? Well, we're going to need your help! We're going to need you to make sure you are a subscriber to the Life in the Higham House channel! Then, come and watch our vlogs! Second, we need you to tell your friends about our channel and get them to subscribe, too! The more people who know and watch the vlog help the vlog to grow!
What will we do?
Well, like I said, if we can reach 500 subscribers by February 26th, 2018, we will be forced to rethink how we post to our channel. In the meantime, however, we are committing to posting as many new vlogs as we can between February 1 and February 26th! Then if we hit the 500? Well, it's going to be pretty amazing! So what do you say? Will you help us make our decision? 500 new subscribers and we move Life in the Higham House to the next level. No new subscribers and we stay where we are, posting at random times. I know we want to do more, the question is..."DO YOU WANT US TO DO MORE?" SUBSCRIBE. SUBSCRIBE. SUBSCRIBE.
