Advent calendars have been a long-standing tradition for many families during the Christmas season. Counting down the days to Christmas, Advent Calendars date back to the 19th century, and have taken all sorts of shapes, styles, sizes, and themes. As a kid, I remember opening up little numbered doors, revealing a verse of scripture and a piece of chocolate candy. When our kids will little, my mom made a Christmas tree wall hanging with 25 mini Christmas ornaments from buttons.
A couple of years ago we we're gifted a new variation of the traditional Advent Calendar, Legos. We love Legos. We love Legos, A LOT! A Lego Advent Calendar? Awesome!
Since that first gift, the Lego Advent Calendar has been a part of our Christmas celebration, and this year will be no different. The only problem we'll have is, which calendar to get? For the 2019 Christmas countdown, Lego has released four fun Advent Calendars; the 2019 Star Wars calendar, the 2019 Friends calendar, the 2019 City calendar, and the 2019 Harry Potter calendar.
We're kicking our holiday series off with the Lego Advent Calendar because these calendars will sell out. Last year, we had a hard time getting the calendar we wanted due to how fast they sold. Plus, if you're going to use the calendar to countdown to Christmas, you're going to need to have it before December 1st.
For the last couple of years, we have used the Star Wars calendar as part of our family Vlogmas series as we get ready for Christmas. Last year, we used the Friends calendar, which I believe, was the first year for the Friends calendar. ORDER YOU LEGO CALENDAR HERE!
This year I think we're going with two calendars, the Star Wars (of course) and the new Harry Potter. We are huge fans of Star Wars and Harry Potter, so it just feels right to order what we love.
And like years past, we will countdown the days to Christmas with our annual Life in the Higham House Vlogmas series! Yes, it has been a while since we've done any vlogging as a family. But because we love the holiday season, we're coming back with some new vlogs and some of our favorite holiday traditions! In the meantime, don't wait to order your Lego Advent Calendar. The most popular sets will sell out. You can click on the graphics above to order your calendar set through our affiliate partnership with Amazon. This partnership allows us to offer the products we love to our readers at no additional cost. You pay the Amazon price; we get a small percentage of the sale with no additional costs to you. And, if you have Amazon Prime, you will have your calendar set within 2 days, with free shipping! Merry Christmas! - the higham family
What's that mean? Well, simply put, we're getting into the spirit of the holidays a little earlier than we have in the past. What this doesn't mean is that we're skipping over Thanksgiving just to get to Christmas sooner. No, we intend on taking plenty of time to celebrate and remember the things that we are thankful for. However, we're also not waiting to begin thinking and celebrating Christmas. In fact, tonight, we watched our first Christmas movie. Over the last couple of years the movie Elf, with Will Ferrell and James Caan, has been the first movie watched. Tonight we lit the fire, snuggled up on the sofa, and enjoyed the familiar laughed and magic that comes with Christmas. Why the change? Why not? Think about it. Christmas and Thanksgiving are two of the biggest holidays on the calendar. But every year we battle with the question of, "when is it okay to play Christmas music?" Then we get all wrapped up in the stress of preparing the turkey feast. We shop, we cook, we gather, we eat. Then it's over and we're on to the next holiday. Christmas isn't that different. We shop, we wrap, we prepare, we gather, we give and receive. Then it's over. By the end of the day we find ourselves sitting in the aftermath wondering, is that all there is? No, that's not all there is! Both Thanksgiving and Christmas come with so much more. The celebrations, the traditions, the joy, and the fun; |
