* THIS POST CONTAINS BOTH AFFILIATE AND PRODUCT LINKS, ALONG WITH LINKS TO THIRD PARTY WEBSITES MENTIONED IN THE POST.* One of the hardest lessons we are learning these days comes as we watch our oldest kids move away and begin their lives. We've started talking about this a little on our vlog and in other blog posts. Three of our five kids are now adults. our oldest kids boys have moved out of the house. Our number three son is almost ready to fly the nest. That leaves our two youngest at home. It's a surreal feeling; our two oldest boys living in two different states, both living their lives. We don't get to see them very often, so when we do, it's a special opportunity. This weekend we made a road trip to visit our second son and his family. Nate and his wife are expecting, so this weekend was an opportunity to celebrate with a baby shower. We started our visit with a day trip to Letchworth State Park, in Castile, NY. The park was amazing, stretching across 14,350-acres, with incredible views overlooking the Genesee River. We shared our adventures in Monday's blog and vlog post. You can read and watch both here; Letchworth State Park. Saturday closed as we visited with Nate's in-laws. We have really enjoyed getting to know them. We spent time sitting by the fire, roasting marshmallows, making s'mores, talking, laughing, and enjoying the blessing of family. Halloween Tees for the FamilyAnd that brings us to the point of this post, recognizing the blessing of family. We started the blog to share what we were learning as parents. We want to talk about the seasons of transition as our kids grow. We want to discuss the challenges and obstacles we face as parents. To share the ups and down, highs and lows, and the joys and sorrows we experience as a family. But most of all, we want to praise God for the blessing of family. Family is a blessing. And we are blessed. It's weekends like these, as we are afforded the time to slow down, that we breath in the joy of family. To be able to sit and talk, tell stories, remember funny moments, and laugh together, these are precious opportunities. And while we miss the years when they were little, being able to sit and have adult conversations is sweet. But it's also exciting to watch as our family grows. As Nate as his wife prepare to add a new little girl to their family, we are looking forward to the gift of life and the joy of being grandparents. No doubt this will usher in a whole new experience for our entire family. Grandparents... That's crazy. Exciting, but crazy. It was a great weekend. Truly. We enjoyed exploring a beautiful state park. We had some sweet time with our expanding family. And we celebrated the joy of new life. It was a great weekend. As parents, we navigate the tides of raising our kids. We do our best. We make mistakes. We try to always be there for our kids. And we trust God. For as much as we love our kids, God loves them more. And as Creator, He has a purpose and plan for their lives. We have the privilege of being a part of their story. We have the honor of watching God use them in tremendous ways. Take time to breath, and enjoy your time with your kids. Cherish every moment. And as they reach milestones in their lives, refrain from grieving what was. Pause and embrace the here and now. Because despite what you think, these are the good old days. - the higham family
